The six steps that took every medallist from curious beginner to national squad. Timelines are guidelines, some move faster, some slower. Consistency wins.

    Visit a club

    Week 1

    Pick the nearest OFC club. Most give a free trial session. Watch one, try one, ask questions.

    Sign up

    Week 2–3

    Complete club registration, health forms, and the annual OFC licence (OMR 15). If money is an issue: confidential scholarship.

    Learn the basics

    Months 1–3

    Footwork, en-garde, distance, simple attacks. Club provides starter gear. Pick a weapon, foil is common to begin.

    Build the base

    Months 3–6

    Add strength + stretching to your weekly routine. 2–3 club sessions + 1–2 gym visits. Start a training log.

    First competition

    Month 6–9

    Enter a domestic under-category tournament. Goal is not to win, goal is to feel bouts under pressure. Every senior medallist once lost their first pool.

    Join the squad

    Year 2+

    Podium finishes at domestic events attract national-team attention. Camps, selection, individual lessons, international exposure.
