Muscat: The Oman Fencing Committee (OFC) signed a series of partnership agreements with local sports clubs to promote and develop fencing across the Sultanate. The move is part of the committee's broader strategy to build a sustainable grassroots fencing programme with deep club involvement.
The partnerships enable the OFC to work directly with clubs, providing training programmes, access to coaching resources, and pathways for talented young fencers to progress from club level to the national team.
OFC Chairman Khalid bin Said al Shuaibi emphasised that the expansion of club partnerships is essential to building a broader talent pool. "Our goal is to have active fencing programmes in every governorate. The clubs are our partners in identifying and nurturing the next generation of Omani fencers."
Head coach Hisham Karshoud noted that the club system provides structured competitive opportunities that are vital for player development. By competing regularly in organised leagues and championships, fencers gain the match experience necessary to perform at regional and international levels.
The initiative represents a key pillar of the committee's 2019-2024 strategic plan, which targets a significant increase in the number of licensed fencers and participating clubs nationwide.
