Muscat: The Oman Fencing Committee (OFC) participated at the International Congress of the Fencing International Federation (FIE) held in Lausanne, Switzerland. The Sultanate's delegation was headed by Khalid bin Saeed al Shuaibi, Chairman of OFC, and Eng Ahmed Said al Adawi, board member.

The FIE approved the Sultanate's membership as a new member after an initial acceptance during the federation's meeting in September. This historic milestone marks Oman's official entry into the global fencing community.

"It is a great step to begin our work since a few months back and to be part of the Fencing International Federation," said OFC Chairman al Shuaibi. "I believe this decision will support the committee to achieve its strategic visions and mission, and imprint the Sultanate's name at the top of this sport in the near future. It is essential to be a member in the international family to gain experience to develop our coaches, players and referees."

The FIE membership requirements include submission of an approved national committee policy, board member details, a National Olympic Committee (NOC) endorsement, and confirmation of proper fencing facilities and qualified coaching staff. Oman met all requirements following the FIE's field visit to the Sultanate in August 2019.
